Your Generosity is Saving Lives

In honor of World Mental Health Day, we want to thank you, our donors, for your ongoing support and demonstrate how your support of programs at Shelter KC is saving lives by helping reduce drug overdose deaths in our community. The World Health Organization (WHO) emphasizes that the purpose of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness of mental health issues and mobilize efforts to improve mental health care worldwide. Through your generous contributions, Shelter KC is actively making a difference by offering comprehensive recovery programs, such as the Christian Community of Recovery (C-COR), which are helping individuals overcome addiction and, in turn, contributing to the reduction of overdose deaths.

Recent data from NPR shows that drug overdose deaths in the U.S. are finally declining, with Missouri experiencing a 34% drop in 2024 alone. This is a promising sign, and your support is playing a crucial role in this progress. At Shelter KC, the C-COR program offers a faith-based, structured approach to recovery, addressing both the mental health and substance abuse challenges of homeless men in Kansas City. By providing counseling, mental health services, and a supportive, trust-based environment, we are helping men achieve long-term recovery and ultimately saving lives.

The C-COR program is more than a recovery initiative; it’s a transformative journey for men who have struggled with addiction for years, often intertwined with underlying mental health issues. In the program’s first phase, participants address their physical and mental health needs, receive counseling, and develop critical life skills to prepare them for sustained recovery. This comprehensive approach reduces the likelihood of relapse and empowers men to rebuild their lives, re-enter society, and avoid the tragic outcomes of untreated addiction.

Your Generosity is Saving Lives

Your support of programs at Shelter KC is saving lives by making this work possible. The C-COR program’s holistic approach—incorporating spiritual, mental, and physical healing—gives participants the opportunity for deep, personal transformation. As overdose deaths continue to decline, the C-COR program is on the front lines of this effort, helping men recover from addiction and preventing unnecessary loss of life.

Your contributions are directly impacting the lives of those who need it most. Every dollar you give helps Shelter KC provide more beds, more counseling sessions, and more recovery programs, all of which are contributing to fewer overdose deaths and a healthier community. Your generosity is saving lives, offering hope and healing to men who once believed recovery was out of reach.

On this World Mental Health Day, we want you to know that your support is part of a global movement toward better mental health care and addiction recovery. Your donations are saving lives and helping Shelter KC continue its mission to fight addiction and bring healing to the men of Kansas City. Thank you for your continued partnership in making our community stronger, healthier, and filled with hope.
