jesus carried me

"Jesus carried me. That’s how I got here..."

Ramon started drinking in middle school. An introduction to drugs when he was 40 took his life down an even darker path.

Born and raised in Oklahoma, he came to Kansas City to escape his addiction. Instead, the pull was too much and he quickly ended up on the streets.

“I was blacking out from my addiction. I’d wake up with no socks on, and it would be snowing outside. Next thing I knew, I couldn’t walk. I was pretty broken. That’s how I knew something had to change. I was one of those lost sheep. The Lord brought me here.”

“This program really opens your heart.”

At a low point, paramedics pointed Ramon to Shelter KC, where your support provided him the opportunity to enroll in the C-COR program. Since then, his life has been transformed.

“I knew I was born for something. I just didn’t know what. It took me a long time to surrender and pray...to take up my cross because it’s a heavy thing to carry if you’re not prepared.”

“I saw these guys who were all happy. They believed in the Lord, and I wanted that. So, I picked it up, and the Lord has helped me a lot. I read the Bible, and it just made sense. I pray to him, surrender every day, and ask him for help. I’m happy.”"

After graduating from the program, Ramon became part of our Discipleship Through Service (DTS) program, working with others who are facing the same problems he has now overcome.

“I got to show them how the Lord is working here and tell them to hang in there because I was lost when I first came in here. But it was my one shot to live right."

“This place can help you if you want to live better. It really opens your heart and your mind, and it really gives you a chance to think about what you’re doing and where you want to go with your life.”
